Colonel Richard Johnson and Colonel John Boswell were in the export/import business in Louisa and Hancock Counties, VA. The Glazebrooks extracted quite a bit of information from county records regarding their families and business dealings, including numerous depositions by friends, acquiantances and others as a result of a lawsuit filed after both of these gentlemen died.

Included in the book is a deposition of William Wash, who stated that in the fall of 1785 he was at the house of Colo. John Boswell who introduced him to a gentleman there, saying, "Sir this is my only brother Thomas Boswell. He is going to become one of your nearest neighbors - He now lives low down in Gloucester County . . I have given him the tract of land which I purchased . . provided he will come & spend the balance of our days together . . John was to send down his wagon to help Thomas and his family move . . In the year 1786 Thomas did move with his family to the tract of land where he resided until the death of his brother John & for some time afterwards & then sold the said land . . "

This deposition clearly establishes the family relationship of the Louisa/Hanover County VA Boswell family with the Boswell family in Gloucester/Mathews Co VA. The Boswell and Johnson families of Louisa and Hanover County were thick as thieves with numerous intermarriages of the families and related families.
