Aren't there an awful lot of very similar sounding names relating to the Maryland Boswell folk from Peter on?

I've seen most of the marginal spellings used just for Anne Bayne (Bean/Bain, etc.) F... why bother. Although the Boswells were well established in Maryland by 1783 (the marriage date I have for Peter Boswell and the above mentioned but oft misspelled Anne) their descendants seem to have carried on their family names orally.

I have Anne's parents as Charles Fenley and Martha Hawkins Bayne.

Has anyone seen any "official" papers actually spelling the "F" name?
