William,

Have some information, albeit circumstantial, which may tie your James to the Maryland Boswells of Charles Co.

In 1783, the Charles Co. Land records note that a James and Priscilla Boswell of Montgomery Co. are selling the tract "Boswell's Inclosure" in Charles Co. Now, we ask ourselves, how did they obtain ownership of this tract?

Boswell's Inclosure was patented by John Boswell in 1763. The Charles Co Rent Rolls for 1765-1769 note that the tract is owned by John Boswell Jr.'s heirs. It is thus likely, that one of these heirs was James Giles, a son of John Jr. and his wife Elizabeth. I note a Charles Co accounting in 1765 byElizabeth Boswell for John Boswell. Thus, likely John Boswell, Jr. died around 1764-65.
John Jr. was generally noted in the Charles Co. records as the son of John B. (1707-1760)and Sarah Boswell. John B. was the son of William Boswell and Mary Machetel, william being the son of John Boswell who died in Charles Co. in 1686.

Lou Giles
