Does anyone know which Ransom P. Boswell was the one that was captured by the Mexicans in the ill fated Mier Expedition/Battle of 12/25/1842? This resulted in the famous black bean drawing where 10% of the men were executed.
Ransome P. Boswell is listed in Company C under Capt. John G. W. Pierson. He's shown as a resident of Milam Co., Texas (Milam was an enormous county in those days) and born in Georgia. He was liberated from Mexico on 16 Sept. 1844.
There's a Ranson P. Boswell age 27 or 28, born Georgia, in 1850 Burleson Co., Texas with 14 (or 24?) year old wife Mary. The adjacent dwelling has the family of Ulyses Boswell age 24 (or 34?), born in Texas. If he was born in Texas and was 24, that would put this family in Texas shortly after the Austin Colony.
A 52 year old attorney, Ransom Perkins Boswell Sr. is listed in the Mortality Schedule of 1850 Burleson Co., Texas, also, having died in February (of the census year, hence 1850).
A Lucindia Boswell is also a head of household in Burleson Co., Texas in 1850. She's 40, and has another 16 year old Lucindia, a 14 (or 16?) Nancy, a 9 yr. old Martha, 7 yr. old Josephine, 5 yr. old John and 3 yr. old Richard. Is this the family of the deceased Ransom Boswell?
