John Ravilious, and others,
I have let a while go by, and no great debate has started based on the old parish registers of Tarporley and Davenham, Cheshire.
As I indicated in my previous response, I am minded to support Coddington, and agree that the Bostwick link to the main line of Bostocks going back to Osmer is not adequately supported by the facts we know, and hence I have done something about my record of this on www.bostock.net.
Any new visitors to www.bostock.net will now find the Bostwick tree starting with Arthur Bostock of Tarporley, but not linking back to the main Bostock tree.
I will just add to my previous reply on this Forum, in which I declared my main reason for not buying Arthur of Davenham having children baptised at Tarporley, was because I could see children of Arthur being baptised at Davenham at exactly the same period. When I looked again at the PR records, I could see there were also children of Arthur baptised at Davenham in the years just before Arthur married Ellen Dennis - ie the children I mentioned (William and Alice) were no longer looking to be obviously of Arthur and Ellen, and indeed so it turns out. There was yet another Arthur Bostock, of Shipbrook, near Davenham, who left a will, and in it he mentions his children, including the earlier ones I referred to, and William (1603).
Hence, the outcome of all this is that I don't have any children left with Arthur Bostock and Ellen Dennis. It does mean that they could have shifted over to Tarporley, but there really isn't anything solid enough to support it as a genealogy. The strongest link in Tarporley is the burial there of Ellen Bostock, widow, in 1642.But I would think it is not quite sufficient.
And so, I have removed 5 centuries of ancestry for all Bostwicks - what power!! but it should be taken as a challenge to any who would seek to argue a reasoned case for me to put the link back in!!!
