My husband has a line of Tiptons from GA. And in going through his records I find this one Benjamin Tipton citation: Under "The Family of Thomas and Amy Tipton, Waynesboro, Burke Co., GA 1783-1830" Chn: Reuben, John Green, Hiram, Benjamin, Joseph B. "Re Benjamin Tipton the article says b. abt 1802 in GA served as an Ensign in the Burke Co. Militia from 21 March 1826 to 21 Apr 1827 and is listed on the 1840 census of Dallas Co., AL with a wife and six chn. Living next door to his brother Joseph Tipton. An old relative in Selma pointed out the location of his home in what is now Selmont, AL across the river from Selma, and said he was a Baptist preacher. No other records have been found, but he may be the Benjamin Tipton who settled north of Bastrop in Morehouse Parish, LA.A Tipton post office is listed on Civil War records of that area."
