Hi Mary,---I recently found information about my GGrandfather, Johan August Bostrom, born 1841 in Umea, Sweden. I had been looking for him under the name of John T. Bostrom [wrong]. In Sweden he was known as August Bostrom. It seems they use the name they like. The John Bostrom you have is not the same one because my ggrandfather, John Bostrom, died in Staten Island, New York in 1930.I am sending you a few website addresses that may help you. Some can be changed to English others with the Glossary can be figured out.

http://www.foark.umu.se/census/glossary.htm Swedish translation to English.

I hope this helps you or at least you find it interesting.
Maybe back a few generations there might be a family connection.
Happy Hunting--Dorothy
