Hello Scott,

James F. Bostock shows up in the 1880 census for Bridgwater, MA, aged 7, and is the son of Thomas Bostock and Ellen M. (Fox), who married 1867-68. We can learn from the various censuses that Thomas was born in May 1848 in England. He was in Bridgwater in 1870 aged 23, 1880 aged 32, and in Brockton in 1900, 1910, and 1920, aged 52, 62 and 71. He emigrated to USA in 1860 (likely missing the UK 1861 census and the USA 1860 census), and naturalised as a US citizen in 1881.

There is a prime candidate to be this Thomas Bostock, namely one who can be found in the 1851 census of Heaton Norris, Lancs aged 3, whose birth was registered in June quarter 1848, but it is not proven, and I have no idea how to prove it. So far the best way is to rule out all other potential Thomas's.

My interest is in all Bostocks. I wonder from your interest if James and Carlotta had children. I don't seem to find any from the census records.

Best wishes,
       Roland
