Bostock - the place

I make this a new topic as I am too proud to be a subheading beneath some other topics. But there has been plenty of discussion over the outcome of Bostock the place.

Thelma Birrell gave a very accurate account of what may now be seen in the area at the villages of Bostock and Bostock Green, which are certainly considered to be in the same general area as the village of Botestock as mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086).

I will just add for our friends across the pond. Once the country became divided into parishes, and chapelries within those parishes, we find Bostock was a chapelry (village) at the centre of the parish of Davenham, and indeed the parish records of Davenham are full of Bostock births, deaths and marriages from the start (1560).

The full set of chapelries within Davenham parish were Stanthorne, Wharton, Moulton, Davenham, Shipbrook, and Whatcroft, all touching on Bostock; and Leftwich, Shurlach cum Bradford, Rudheath Lordship , and Newhall a little further North.

However, the Bostocks were a numerous lot, and by the time that parish registers start recording births and deaths (the mid 16th century) there are many more parishes across most of the length and breadth of Cheshire where Bostocks are also in their entries from the start.

Outside Cheshire this is not so. There are some Bostocks, but rather few in the earliest PRs outside of Cheshire. It certainly looks like we spread out from Bostock itself, though this spread was well advanced in Cheshire by 1600.
