Dear Bostock Friends,I am writing from memory, but I have the recorded history, which I shall retrieve at a later date. While visiting the village of Bostock and Bostock Green in 1995, we shared a few stories with a couple who lived in one of the original cottages in Bostock Green.
There was an oak tree planted there, which represented the geographical centre of Cheshire. The people, whose name escapes me at the moment, had a story written for local publication, which described the earliest village as Botestock. I shall look through my files and get the full story for my next posting.
The whole village was privately owned by the Hayhurst family at one time, having links also to the daughter of Andrew Carnegie.
Bostock Hall itself (about 12 acres)which was just a part of the Estate, was sold to pay death duties and bought by the (I think) Manchester City Council. It was a home for special girls at one time but was later sold. This Hall property has now been developed into home units and sold. I have not seen them. It was a wonderful experience to drive down the country road and then all at once to see the sign - just large white board with black printing saying "BOSTOCK".
I shall retrieve my Botestock story and then make contact..Thelma (Bostock) Birrell in Australia.
