OSMER and his Anglo-Saxon England...

Seems that by 830 England was Northumbria in the north. Mercia and East Anglia, in the central portion of the island. Wessex and Sussex, in the lower or southern part of the island.

During the years 650 to 750 Anglo-Saxon England looked with more divisions: from the north was Northumbria, Lindsey, Mercia, East Angles, East Saxons, Kent, Hwicca, West Saxons, and South Saxons.

You have to remember that all of this time Scotland, Wales, and most of Cornwall was still under the control of Celts.
