I am not a descendant of Sion Record Bostick's line and am not researching his line; however, I did find the following info the other day on his sister which I filed away for such time as I might want to do more research on his line.Hope this helps.~~~wanda bostick littleELIZABETH BOSTICK WAS SCION RECORD BOSTICK'S SISTER.
Elizabeth6 Bostick Pogue (Levi T.5, James4, Thomas3, Thomas2, Thomas1) was born in SC 12-17-1802 and died 7-22-1894 in Grove Hill, Clarke Co., AL, at age 91.She was bd. 7-22-1894 in Grove Hill, Clark Co., AL.She md. David Pogue 11-7-1816 in Grove Hill, Clark Co., AL (b. 12-26-1781 -possibly in TN).David died 8-16-1837 in Grove Hill, Clark Co., AL at age 55.He was bd. 8-16-1837 in Grove Hill, Clark Co., AL.David Pogue came into the MS Territory in the early 1800's.It really is not known exactly who he came with or how many people.It is believed that it was with one of his brothers, Levi.Rumor was that just north of what is now known as Grove Hill, AL, Levi was killed by hostile Indians. The brother may have been Robert, but not proven.David settled a short distance from there and established a large Plantation, known for 77 years as the Pogue Place.The Bostic family came through in covered wagons on their way into TX. They camped on the Pogue Place.When they continued on their journey, Elizabeth Bostic, who was only 14 years of age at the time, stayed behind and married David Pogue.They md. 11-7-1816 in Clarke Co., AL.The family residence was near Magoffin's Store, north of what is known as Grove Hill. The children were in the order of age as follows:Julia Ann Pogue (b. 7-25-1818); Pinkney Hill Pogue (b. 9-28-1820); Martha M. Pogue (b. 12-15-1822); Joseph Bostic Pogue (b. 11-29-1825); Levi Spinks Pogue (b. 12-26-1828); Sarah Elizabeth Pogue (b. 1-26-1831); Ann Maria Pogue (b. 12-31-1834); David J. Pogue (b. 11-30-1832); Caroline A. Pogue (b. 1--17-1834); Eliza Jane Pogue (b. 7-24-1826).
David died at age 56, having been md. not quite 21 years. He was bd. in the Spinks Cemetery in Clarke Co., AL.Located in Grove Hill, AL off Asbury Road.Established about 1820 in connection with the Spinks Chapel, a Methodist Church called the Pogue Cemetery.Elizabeth Bostick Pogue, although not 35 years of age at the time of her husbands death, remained a widow, devoting herself to the care of her family.She died 7-22-1894.She and David are bd. in the Old Spinks Grave Yard, on the Asbury Road inside a little brick enclosure. This grave yard is quite fittingly on a section of the Ole' Pogue Place, where they spent so many happy hours.
Elizabeth Bostic Pogue had a wonderfully retentive memory, and her description of the community and their mode of living, in the early days sounded more like a western border story than of Clarke county as we see it today.For 77 years, Elizabeth resided in almost a stone's throw of where she died and, for 72 years, she resided in the same house.Until her illness, although of great age, she could walk about the house and go regularly to her meals.For 40 years, Elizabeth had been a great sufferer, caused by a fall from a horse, yet she was never heard to complain and was always submissive to the Master's will. A short time before her death she said she was ready - just waiting for the Lord. She was a member of the Baptist Church and lived as a true Christian woman should.
"The pains of death are past; Labor and sorrow cease;
And life's long warfare closed at last, Her soul is found in peace."
FRIEND
From the road I could see the foliage of the trees,
And I could hear the lulling sigh of the summer breeze.
The rusting gate was open, partially,
Enough for me, I walked into the ancient cemetery.
Sleep quietly, all who are here. Rest.
Nature has taken you to her breast.
Be comforted. Be comforted.
Her brother Sion Record Bostic helped to capture Santa Anna!
