My Boss from RI became Boyce in NY

Hi everyone, have been doing some research on my Boyce surname from the Cayuga County and Onondaga County New York area and have found that the surname of Boyce that I always knew was first known as Boss.

My first connection that I found is who I believe was Johnathon Boss on the 1810 census from Rhode Island county of Washington, town of Richmond. I have no absolute proof of this yet, but am working on it, since there were two Johnathons in the same place. My Johnathon had a son named Sirlines or Sirlinus Boss who later was to become known as Linus Boyce when they get to Cayuga County New York. I found early records of Linus also listed as Boss.

Never knew what nationality Boyce was, now even more intrigued by which one Boss is. My Boyce were mostly Protestant, so it is hard to really know.

Anyone else out there whose Boss became Boyce ? Would be interest in knowing about it.
