James Borthwick was born in 1736, a tailor in Millgillfoot, Langholm, he married Peggy Byres in 1764. Son James orn 1766, Grizell 1767, George, 1769, Wiliam 1770. Emigrated 1773. He was youngest son of James Borthwick, hisband of Jean Little. They married 1719. He died 1763, she 1781. Their other childern were: John (died 1728) Jenet (died 1728) Christopher born 1730 (and had issue), another daughter died 1733 and Walter died 1736.
