Joseph Boren (Boring) was the brother of Charles, not his son; their father was William Boren who died 1768 in Orange County, NC. He in turn was a son of Joseph Boren of Currituck Co. NC, who was son of Edmund Bouren of Lower Norfolk Co. VA. and Currituck Co. NC, who was son of the immigrant William Boren, b. ca. 1615, and who died in Lower Norfolk Co. VA.
