Winnie,

I am related to most of the BORENS of the four corners area of NE Texas. Israel BOREN was my GGG uncle.
The Lee-Peacock feud involved several members of the Boren & Maddox families. This story has been recorded in several of the county histories of Collin, Grayson, Hunt, and Fannin counties, known as Four Corners. Also this story has been documented in the book, "Murder At The Corners", by Gladys B. Ray.
Israel & his brother, Henry BOREN, were aligned with the Unionist Peacock faction in the feud.

Bob LEE (the Lee of the feud) was killed by Union Troops who were assisted by Henry BOREN. Henry revealed the secret trail that Bob LEE used to get from his home to his hideout in Wildcat Thicket.
There are dozens of yarns and legends of the shooting of Bob Lee. However, very little is known of how it blew the Boren family apart.
Henry was killed by his own nephew, William "Bill" BOREN, in 1868 as a result of Bob LEE's death.
Bill's killing of Henry ignited a Boren-Boren feud. The family didn't want any interference by law officers and simply went to bushwhacking each other with a vengeance. Bill disappeared for a few years, but was baited back and killed by Henry's son. Forgotten is that three Borens were ambushed nearby and buried in a wagon bed in the Dulaney Graveyard.

Sincerely,

Fred Downs
1/2 Boren
