Well, Blake, I'm finally getting back to you.Your response to my inquiry and reading about my ancestors of long, long ago gives me goose bumps!Meant to write before this, but knew it would require some time, so here I am, finally!
You have, indeed, found a big bunch of new cousins!Irma Hayes Coe was my great grandmother. We are second cousins, once removed. My mother, who just turned 84 on Aug. 27, is your second cousin. Her mother, Viola Ruth Coe Birdsley, was the middle child of three of Irma and Jesse Coe.The oldest, Aunt Stella Coe Myers passed away Jan. 6, 2006.She was still pretty sharp at the time of her death, however, I knew she was also mixing some things up about the ancestors. That has led me to look into the validity of her claim to the rather close relationship to Lizzie. She said that Elizabeth Hayes Coe's father's name was Ezekiel.I scoured the Borden Tree descending from Tom that I discovered on this site, and the only Ezekiel was born about 100 years too soon.Very interesting that you have a record of your great great grandfather being William (maybe he was nicknamed Ezekiel:))eh?)In the Borden Tree that I scoured, William is a big name and I think I remember Abram and Mary Ann Stephens.I will be looking back at that info.Have you looked at that family tree info? Also, in that family tree, is Andrew (who appears to be an only child) and his daughters, Emma and Lizbeth. Also, Gail Borden is there. There were three generations of Gail's.I think Gail must have been a man?A real shocker for me,Sir Winston himself, son of Jenny is there, also.
I was very fortunate to get to know Aunt Stella. Since the year 2000 she attended our Birdsley Family reunions every year including 2005.She lived, independently, in a retirement community in St. Johns. In addition to the reunions, I visited her there several times. On her wall were displayed the most pristine original photographs of our family. She allowed me to take them down, take them home and I copied them to disk. She called your grandfather, Will. There is a family portrait of Myron and Elizabeth with ALL their children (9). Do you happen to have it, also? Then there is the earlier portrait of "William" and Mary Guernsey, whom Aunt Stella said was his second wife and not the mother of Elizabeth. Is that in your records?Must remember to tell you, Aunt Stella...whale of a storyteller!!!What she still did superbly until her last days.Anyway, there is an Aunt Stella story about William's first wife. Myron and Elizabeth are buried in Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, MI next to my grandmother, Viola (also my Aunt Francis and Uncle Orie are on the other side of her.I have a picture of the gravesite.
Well, knew it would take some doozie paragraphs.I grew up in Davison, MI.I now live in the city of Flint. That's not as bad as it sounds.I love Flint, MI!I'll turn the ripe ol' age of 65 come February and it is funny to me now how that is NOT as old as it use to be...!So hope to hear from you sooner than you heard from me.Tell me about yourself and what info you've gathered.Sounds like you have been at this far longer than I have.
Your cousin,
Yvonne
