There are Bopp families in Aargau, Switzerland; e.g., in Wettingen and Birmenstorf, Bopps have had a presence from the 1700's to the present. The Record Offices (Zivilstandsamt) keep various types of records of their citizens such as Parish, census, etc. Family Registers if available for the 1840's may likely mention that a certain person went to America, as may other types of records. These offices will make searches for a charge. The Record Office for Wettingen may be contacted at:

The teldir.com gives much info on other places. Switzerland also has emigration records, and compiled genealogies, etc.
