Read below & come to your own conclusions!
1777 marriage record of widow Mary Couch & widow John Patterson.
1783 marriage record belonging to one John Couch & Eliz. Campbell.
1787 There was a huge law suit amoung John Patterson's children & grandchildren. when he died.
1796 Mary Couch Patterson is "Mother to that Orange co John Couch" her will states surviving childen of 'John & Besty's children', his wife deceased. Mary,Letty, Julia, Elinoe & Elizabeth.
(meaning Eliz/Besty died before 1796.)
(meaning those girls Mary, Letty, Julia, Elinor & Elizabeth, are Mary's grandchildren)
(also since those were the only people
mentioned in Mary Couch Patterson's will, Then John Couch must have been an only child)
1799 widow John Couch went on to marry Susana Smith d/o Martha & John Smith.
1823 Mecklenburg co the will of John Couch mentions wife Susannah, the same daughters names, Mary, Letty, Julia, Elinor & Elizabeth. Now one son John S. (2nd wife, Susannah Smith, being his mother)
Conclusion:
Mary Couch Patterson is the mother of John. she died 1796.
Eliz/Besty died before 1796
John remarried & had one son John S. Couch.
Take away that Dec 1783 marriage record & our John NEVER married his daughters Mother-in-law.
There is a good chance all the children, Mary, Sarah, Nancy, Martin & John, were by Mary Boon & John Couch. Also good chance John Couch NEVER married more than once.
