For several years now I have been researching surveyor Jacob Myers b 1739 who was with Christopher Gist and George Washington in Pittsburgh. They delivered a letter in the fall of 1753 to the French Commander at Fort Duquesne from the Governor of Virginia. The letter was a demand for French Commander and his men to leave the area.
Two years later on July 9 1755, General Braddock and his men attacked French Forces at Pittsburgh. General Braddock was killed and the English Forces under him were forced to retreat back to Virginia. Among the people under General Braddock at this attack was George Washington, Christopher Gist, Dr Thomas Walker, Daniel Boone, Robert Spotswood, Hanging Maw among others.
The battle was on the Frazer/Myers land grant at Turtle Creek just outside the Fort in now downtown Pittsburgh.
Christopher Gist and Dr Thomas Walker are recorded in History to be the very first explorers of Kentucky.
Records show Daniel Boone was hired by Benjamin Franklin to ferry supplies from Philadelphia to Fort Duquesne for use in General Braddock's battle.
By 1785 Jacob Myers is the largest landowner in Kentucky with over 1 million acres. His partner Lt Col Leven Powell is the second largest landowner in Kentucky. Records show that Lt Col Leven Powell was one of the Commissioners with Daniel Boone in helping to start Booneboro Kentucky.
In that 1785 time frame, Patrick Henry issued Jacob Myers 5200 acres to build the Slate Creek Iron Works. A Christopher Gists relative John Cockey Owings and his son Thomas Dyer Owings helped run the Iron Works. The Connection from Christopher Gist to John Cockey Owings is through John's aunt Susan Cockey who married Thomas Gist. Thomas Gist is Christopher Gist's brother.
The Cockey family is also in business with Lt Col Leven Powell in Middleburg VA.
What is very interesting is Jacob Myers's son William Myers married Caroline Grundy. She is the daughter of John Grundy and Eliza McIntyre. John Grundy's brother is Felix Grundy who is the Attorney General of the US under President Martin Van Buren. Martin Van Buren is recorded as a friend of William Cooper the mayor of Albany. William Cooper is James Fenimore Coopers father. Martin Van Burens's son is Singleton Van Buren. CSA John Singleton Mosby is use using Lt Col Leven Powell's property at Middleburg VA for his operations.
Caroline Grundy Myers and all her children and grandchildren are listed as heirs to Gen Alexander Spotswood's Estate in Kentucky. Gen Alexander Spotswood is Gov Alexander Spotswood's grandson. Robert Spotswood would be the Governors son. Robert Spotswood was killed in Pittsburgh in 1756 at Fort Duquesne. Patrick Henry is married to the granddaughter of Gov Alexander Spotswood.
I know for sure and it's well recorded that William Cooper, Archibald McIntyre and Martin Van Buren are all on the Erie Canal Commission of 1817 out of Albany.
I am still trying to find any records at all that Jacob Myers had any direct business dealings with Daniel Boone. I am also trying to connect James Fenimore Cooper to the Hanging Maw and Jemima Boone story which I believe I have done through the Grundys, McIntyres, Martin Van Buren and William Cooper.
