From your posting, I wasn't sure if you had the census records prior to 1870. I decided to look up the census data prior to 1870 and found Andrew listed in:
1860 Wilkes Co, NC SHT 80
1850 Stanly Co, NC SHT 90
1840 Orange Co, NC SHT 29
1830 Orange Co, NC SHT 29

Trying to find who his father might be just from census data, I found the most likely candidate was a John BOON listed in the 1820 and 1830 censuses of Orange Co, NC. He would have been born around 1770/1775. Of course you will need to find something to verify that he would be the father.

I found two John BOONs in the 1810 census of NC that might be the same person. One was in the Edgecombe Co census and the other was in Rowan Co census. I'll do some more looking later at those to see if they can be eliminated by some other records.

A fast look did not give me any insight into who the father of John BOON b.1770/1775 might be.
