Boone Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Fern,
Thanks for replying to my post. The tradition that Mary/Polly Boone was a dau. of a Squire Edward Boone and an Indian woman, has been handed down in both my ancestresses families -- i.e. Nancy Ann Couch who md. William Campbell (my mother's family - Clay Co., KY branch), and Sarah/Sally Couch who md. James T. Lewis, Jr. (my father's family - Breathitt Co KY branch). The tradition has been consistent for nearly 200 years, and it will not go away. Did any of Squire Boone's brothers, or uncles, have a Squire or Edward who could have been her father? We thought for sure when we "found" Israel, that we "had our man", but it looks as if that's not the case, unless Mary was illegitimate. Also, there is the tradition in some of the family that John Couch's parents were killed (?by Indians?) in PA and the Boone family took him in. Can't find any proof of that, either! I think it is because of the many Squires and Edwards in Daniel's Boone family, and the tradition that James T. Lewis was cousin of Daniel, that we've looked so hard at this particular branch of the Boone family. John Couch, his marriages, and children from each are well documented, and have been for years. It is just Mary/Polly's parents that simply cannot be found. They have disappeared to history. Do you know of a web site where I can read about the Boone's in the Quaker records? Were Squire's extended family Quakers also? Maybe there's something there we've missed. Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.
Joyce
