"Boon", usually without the "e" is a common name in the Netherlands. I've found a number of references in American Colonial records of merchants and seamen / captains named "Boon". They are usually referenced because they represent non-resident merchants importing or exporting materials in trade, and are thereby paying a tax of xome sort.

Anyway, it IS a popular Dutch name.

That said, there have been a number of opportunities, especially in the mid-to-lat 1800's, when Americans moved to South America to seek their fortunes in the developing frontiers, so that may be another path for your ancestors.
