Delilah Bookout NOT Robert Sweets first wife
I have the census images online at my website www.looktothepast.com.They are under Janes Genealogies, Robert Sweet.
As I do some of my genealogy research online, I keep coming across information about Robert Sweet.Every page of information that I come across lists Delilah Bookout as Robert’s first wife.Through much research I have proof that she in fact was not.Edith Pliney Gilmore is in fact Roberts first wife.
My Sources
In the 1850 Jefferson City, Independence County, Arkansas census I have:
Robert Sweet35TN
Edy30NC
Margaret P.10TN
Mary A.8TN
Nancy E.7TN
George M. E.4TN
Sarah J.1TN
John Gillmore25NC
John Gillmore is Edith’s brother.Edith is listed as Edy in the census.
In the 1860 Benton Township, Christian County, Missouri Census I have;
Robert Sweet45TN
Phebe40NC(Phebe would actually be Pliney or Edy)
Margaret P.19TN
Mary A.17TN
Nancy E.15TN
George M.13TN
Sarah J.10TN
Elizabeth F.7AR
Robert M.6AR
Samuel C.3MO
Also in the 1860 Benton Township, Christian County, Missouri Census I have:
Delilah Bookout living with an Anne Bookout.
Anne Bookout35 WidowKY
Delilah Bookout30KY
James Bookout20TN
Now in the 1870 Benton Township, Christian County, Missouri Census Delilah finally shows up being married to Robert Sweet.
Robert Sweet54TN
Delilah42KY
Elizabeth18AR
Robert16AR
Samuel13MO
Tennessee8MO
John7MO
Melissa5MO
James3MO
William1MO
With the census records as fact, Delilah could have only been the mother of Tennessee, John, Melissa, James and William.Edith Pliney Gilmore Sweet being the mother ofMargaret, Mary, Nancy, George, Sarah, Elizabeth, Robert and Samuel Sweet.
I would help clear up some of this confusion and hopefully help get the correct information out there.
