I don't know the answer to your question about why Nancy J. Shores was a domestic with the Bookout family, but I have an additional piece of info--James's sister Mary E. married Charles Bookout on the same day that James married Nancy Jane Shores in 1862. The families must have been friends. I also am descended from James and Nancy and am trying to find William. There were so many Fear families in Indiana that some could have been brothers of William. Have you found anything more?
