If you live in NYC then you can visit the Brooklyn Public Library, they have tons of old directories. To view a list of their holdings go to:

http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/brooklyncollection/

On the right-hand side, click on "city directores and telephone directories" and you'll obtain a listing of all such holdings. You can also email "ask a librarian" to see whether they do look-ups and if so, what is the cost. I don't find where these directories have been digitized and placed online but I didn't do an extensive search. I didn't find them on Ancestry but again I didn't look that hard.

If you can't go to the library in person, then visit this site:

http://www.raogk.org/listing.htm

Click on NY (state) and New York (county/city). There is a gentleman there who has volunteered to do look-ups in libraries. He might be willing to help.
