I am trying to gather familial information of John Augustus Bonney. I don't know when he was born but I believe he died in 1811. He was one of the founding members of the London Corresponding Society, along with Thomas Paine, and was jailed in the Tower of London from May 19, to October 1794 and he wrote some letters of his time in the Tower as well as publishing some poems in 1794 called "Poetry by John Augustus Bonney" (he did some prior around 1777) and I believe they are housed in Edinburgh as well as in Cambridge at Cambridge University (not 100% on this). I can't seem to find the book of poems anywhere and he mentions his family in it, but the only names I have is a step-daughter by the name of Mary Johnson (who married a C. Dowse) and these books belonged to a Reverend Thomas George Bonney (ca. 1923) and donated to Dr. Victor Bonney who was the one who donated them to Cambridge who is the great-grandson of John Augustus Bonney. He donated them on August 24, 1924. Does anyone have his family ties to the Bonneys of England? I would also like to read his work. I know there is one book out there called "The Politics of Nature: William Wordsworth and Some Contemporaries", Second Edition (Paperback), but I would like to get copies of the poems. Thank you to anyone who can highlight this most interesting figure. Ernest McGray Notify Administrator about this message?
