Most Bonnells and Bonnels in the US are probably descendants of William BUNNELL and Ann Wilmot of New Haven, CT through their son Nathaniel, who moved to Elizabethtown, NJ about 1664/5. Nathaniel's descendants have generally spelled the surname with an O, while descendants of Nathaniel's siblings have more often stuck to the U spelling.
