Samuel of New Hanover NC = Samuel of Mary Dunn?

To All,

Need your help with this latest hypothesis. Is it possible that Samuel Bonham who received a deed to property in New Hanover CO, NC 1735 and who d. New Hanover Co., NC 1771, mentioning in his will: son, Ephraim Bonham and Hezekiah, John & Nicholas who he named as Carterīs and children of Tomlinson Carter, was indeed Samuel Bonham of Hezekiah Bonhamīs 1st marriage to Mary Dunn?

1) Samuel Bonham I, son of Hezekiah Bonham and Mary Dunn is said to have been b. 1693 and he seems to have "disappeared" 1738 or so(either d. or "went back to England", genealogies vary on that point but he was "gone" from NJ/PA after 1738). He md. Catherine Anderson, Andrus, Andries and as to male lineage, had 2 sons, Samuel II and Ephraim (Samuel II said to have been b. 1725 and Ephraim 1728; daughter Rachel, 1720).

Question: Does anyone know when Catherine Andrus, Anderson, Andries died?

2) It is well documented via property deeds, that Samuel Bonham and Ephraim Bonham were brothers and grandsons of Catherineīs father, Enoch Anderson/Andrus.

3) Samuel Bonham II md. Ruth Bowyer 1747 and he is presumed to have d. prior to 1758, when Ruth Bowyer Bonham md. Jeremiah Baker. In 1769, Ephraim, brother of Samuel Bonham, was a tennant in Ruthīs sister, Esther Boyte/Boydīs, house. Esther was recently widowed (husband was Philip Boyte/Boyd) and asked permission to sell the house to her brother-in-law, Ephraim, which was granted. In 1780 the house was occupied by Richard Salter, a relative of Rebecca Morris Cox who md. Absalom Bonham (son of Malachiah Bonham via Hezekiah Bonhamīs 2nd marriage).

4)There were a number of Ephraim Bonhams in the PA area at the time but in 1761, an Ephraim Bonham md. a Margaret Jarrat/Garrat. Thereīs no mention in the records of any children by this marriage. Note that the Ephraim Bonham who md. Susannah Jones is thought to have been a son of Hezekiah Bonhamīs 2nd marriage and one of the "-iah" Bonhams.

5) In 1735, a Samuel Bonham acquired land in New Hanover Co. NC. In 1750, Samuel Bonham and Tomlinson Carter, sold Tomlinson Carterīs land, "Carterīs Rest" in MD, which she inherited from her grandfather, Edward Carter, to Henry Garret of Johnston, NC.

Thinking Garret, Garrat, Jarrat here - is that just a coincidence?

6) In 1764, Samuel Bonham of New Hanover, NC, wrote his last will and granted son, Ephraim Bonham, "five shillings sterling, if demanded".

There was no recorded Ephraim Bonham in New Hanover NC or anywhere I could find in NC at the time so might Ephraim have been living in PA and why his father said Ephraim coud have the money if he "demanded" it?

Samuel goes on to will property to Tomlinson Carterīs "children", John, Hezekiah, Nicholas, Anne, Sarah and Eleanor. Note that as to whether these children were also Samuelīs, that there was a Hezekiah Bonham on the tax lists of New Hanover Co., NC at the same time as the will was written. My thinking is that the children were Samuelīs children too and Bonhams but that Tomlinson and Samuel were in accord as to keeping their estates and "children" seperate. That the Y-DNA test of a descendant of Samuel Bonhamīs family matches the Y-DNA tests of the the NJ Bonhams so closely, would tend to prove this part of the hypothesis.

Please, everyone, any one, let me know what you think and especially what you know.

As to Samuel Bonham of New Hanover, itīs been said he was b. 1714. Is there any record of his birth year?

Thanks,
Linda
