Early Bonhams

I found the story you related very interesting as I have also heard this. My g-grandfather, Romulus Calhoun Bonham, wrote a short family history which I discovered about three years ago in his personal effects. It apparently was written about 1908 and a portion of it was published in Smith's work in 1909. The first paragraph:
"The earliest notice I have of the Bonhams of Virginia is in Burke’s History of Virginia. In the list of those who came to the Colony previous to 1620 is the name of William Bonham. My grand father Martin L. Bonham stated that a Brother of William came over also named Hezekiah and both had families. One was a Ship Builder, the other a farmer. Both settled in the Colony. The Ship-builder built a Ship or Boat of some kind and put to Sea and was never seen or heard from any more and from these families Sprang the Earliest Bonhams of Virginia. The descendants of these families scattered and settled in various Counties of Virginia, Tennessee, S. Carolina and Ohio. William and Hezekiah came from England."
This sounds like another version of the same story perhaps with a name change. Any other comments from those of you out there? Has anyone else heard these stories through family lore?
