Hi Greg,
I have been researching the Bonesteel family for several years but my branch is in Rensselaer County, NY. Nicholas Bonesteel is the patriarch of the family (1689-1758). He arrived in the Rhinebeck area in 1710. He had several children including Johann David whose son Jacob went to Canada to avoid serving in the Revolutionary War. Several of the German immigrants in the Palatine camps marched to Canada around 1775. Two other sons, Nicholas, Jr and Frederick migrated up to the Albany/Troy, NY area. I believe Peter and Philip stayed in the Dutchess county area.

The Troy library has a Bonesteel file with the early info. There is also a book by Henry Z. Jones, Jr., The Palatine Families of NY-1710. Hope this helps you out.
