Bone & Bones: Different Origins?
Posted by: Mary Becker (ID *****4664) Date: July 27, 2008 at 00:54:25

From "The Surnames of Ireland," Sixth Edition, by Edward MacLysaght, Irish Academic Press, Dublin, Ireland, page 21:
"Bones: This is 'Mac Cnamhaigh' in Connacht sometimes English elsewhere. The rare Bone is for de Bohun. The Irish word for bone is 'cnamh'."
So, according to the research of Dr. MacLysaght, the surname 'Bone' and the surname 'Bones' are from different bloodlines.
