Bone - Caravan from NC to ?

I was wondering if anyone out there has any information as to who was in the original caravan that left NC in the late 1700's and traveled west across the US? I am interested in finding out a few more facts about that original caravan and where it traveled. Where can I find supporting documntation on it? I understand that there were three John Bone's traveling in it. I am trying to sort out the three John's so far without much success.
