Since Mauro Carneiro posted his original query much has been discovered, as he is cited as a source in Oliver Marshall's "English, Irish and Irish-American Pioneer Settlers in Nineteenth-Century Brazil" (Oxford Univ Centre for Brazilian Studies, 2005).Perhaps prompted by this very query, the author has clearly researched this family in some detail, and their whole saga is used as one of the family examples to illustrate the disastrous development of the "Colónia Assunguy" in the state of Pananá.
The family are reported to have sailed from Liverpool 12/1872 on Pacific Steam Nav Co's PATAGONIA, arriving Rio de Janeiro in 2/1873 (this is to early for passenger lists to have been retained at the National Archives - starts 1878).
