#3 - BOMBARDIERE aka LABOMBARDE aka BOMBARD

This is a major project that I’ve been working on for others and felt it best to post my results for others to share in, should someone need any of the info. If anyone has additional info, please feel free to post it.

There are countless websites with Bombard/et al family trees. I have no intention of attempting to piece them all together. My primary focus are a few specific families that migrated to Franklin and Grand Isle counties of VT and Clinton and Franklin counties of NY.

My primarry sources of information:
(1) PRDH - http://www.genealogie.umontreal.ca/en/
(2) DROUIN - http://www.ancestry.com
(3) Virginia DeMarce - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vtgrandi/demarce/intro.htm
(4) William Calhoun - http://calhoun-mcknight.blogspot.com/2006/10/descendants-of-jean-bombardier.html
This last is a an excellent read that I highly recommend! Bill has compiled more than names, dates, and places. He tells us real stories about these ancestors, and his documentation is at a level of excellence that is rarely seen.

This family group spent a brief time in Grand Isle County VT, then migrated to Franklin County NY - settling primarily in Bangor, Fort Covington, Brandon, and Moira.

GENERATION #7
ALEXANDRE
Baptized 20 Aug 1826, age 2 days, St-Joseph-de-Chambly

I contend that Alexandre and Francois/Frank/Franklin are one and the same. Exhaustive searches in the Drouin failed to turn up any death record for Alexandre, nor a birth/baptism record for a Francois to Michel & Therese.

Alexandre was born on 18 Aug and baptized on 20 Aug 1826.
In the 1900 US Census, Frank’s birth is cited as 6 Aug 1825. It might have been a stretch of the memory for people in their 70s to remember exact dates.

Although birth locations vary from NY to VT to Canada (twice), then finally VT, I still contend Frank is Alexandre. Michel and Therese resided in VT in the 1840s and had a number of children born in VT but baptized either IN Canada, or by a missionary priest who recorded in his home parish register. This might have caused confusion amongst the children in latter years of their lives.

NOTE: All US Censuses are Bangor (Franklin County) NY unless otherwise stated.
NOTE: All born NY unless otherwise stated.

GENERATION #8
CHILDREN OF FRANK & HARRIET

1. Edmond
1870 USC - Edmun Bombard of age 9, born NY
1880 USC - Edmond Bombard of age 19, born NY - ADOPTED SON
COMMENT: Edmond was apparently adopted by both, not a child of Henriette/Harriet by a prior marriage
1900 USC - NOT FOUND
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

2. William
1870 USC - William Bombard of age 8, born VT, father is foreign born
1880 USC - Willie Taylor of age 18, born VT, father born England, mother born VT - STEPSON
COMMENT: Willie Taylor as Stepson, would indicate a prior marriage for Harriet.
Interesting link on this one - 1870 USC has William Taylor of age 8, born VT - son of William (31, VT) & Elizabeth (32, VT) Taylor. They are also residing in Bangor and live next to George & Sophie Gero. Sophie is a sister of Frank. Elizabeth would have been born @1828 and would have been a peer of Frank and Sophie, but find no indication that she is an unaccounted for sibling. However, Willie/William is also shown with Frank & Harriet in 1870 - were there two of the same name, just enumerated twice in 1870?
1900 USC - NOT FOUND - Several possibilities, but not in Franklin County NY
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

3. Florence
1870 USC - Florence bombard of age 5, born NY
1880 USC - Florence Bombard of age 15, born NY - DAUGHTER
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

4. Eva
1870 USC - Eva Bombard of age 1, born NY
1880 USC - Eva Bombard of age 11, born NY - DAUGHTER
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

5. Arthur
1880 USC - Arthur Bombard of age 9, born NY - SON
Is he the Arthur J. Bombard of age 29, born Dec 1871, NY - residing in Boston (Suffolk) MA with wife Mary of age 27 and daughter Hattie M. of age 3? Hattie is a diminutive of Harriet, so the possibility of being the same Arthur is strong.
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

6. Wilbur
1880 USC - Wilbur Bombard of age 8, born NY - SON
1900 USC - Is he the Wilbur of age 26, born Aug 1873, NY - with wife Eva of age 22, born Jul 1877, NY - married 2 years - zero children - Springfield (Hampden County) MA?
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

7. Bertha
1880 USC - Berthe Bombard of age 4, born NY - DAUGHTER
1900 USC - Bertha Fish of age 24, born 30 Oct 1875 - married 2 years, with son Lawrence of age 9/12, residing with parents - DAUGHTER
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

8. Clifford
1880 USC - Cliford of age 2, born NY - SON
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

9. Floyd
1900 USC - Floyd of age 17, born 12 May 1883 - residing with parents and sister Bertha - SON
1910 USC - Floyd of age 27, residing with parents, wife Agnes, and son Arthur A.
1920 USC - Floyd of age 36, residing with wife Anna and children.
As with prior censuses, he is residing next door to cousin Newell.
*****NOTHING FURTHER*****

COMMENT: Harriet states in the 1900 that she had 6 children/6 still living: Florence, Eva, Arthur, Wilbur, Bertha, Clifford, and Floyd - was one of these NOT her natural child? And who/how/what exactly are Edmond and Willie?

*****END OF POSTING*****
