Slaughter-Bolton connection again
While this may be pure coincidence, I noted recently that there is a christening record for one Edward Slaughter dated 6 Feb 1665 at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, Westminster, London. His parents are given as Edward Slaughter and Selina. This couple, would appear, then, to be identical to the Edward Slaughter b. 23 Apr 1633, who married a Selina Baskett c. 1649-50(she b. 1629).
In the absence of any conflicting information, I take this Edward Slaughter, christened in 1664 to be identical to the Edward Slaughter, whose grandson, Owen Slaughter of Richmond Co. NC, married Mary Elizabeth Bolton.(b.c. 1741).
While I haven't been able to confirm the parentage for this Mary Eliz. Bolton, I just noted another christening record:
John Bolton, christened 19 Oct 1681 at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, Westminster, London.Parents given as Robert Bolton and wife, Frances.
This leads me to think that perhaps the family of Edward Slaughter the emigrant to VA c. 1684 may well have known the Boltons(later of Nansemond Co. VA?)back in London.Again, this is only conjecture, but it certainly does seem more than coincidental to find Slaughters and Boltons connected to the same church in London and prior to c. 1684.
If anyone can contribute more or add to this, please contact me.
Regards to all,
Larry D. Hamilton Coats
