While you're searching for Boleypaws, it might be a good idea to look for Boleys, too.
I read a message where someone thought the name was originally Boley, and Paw was added by the Indians as a title of respect. This was disputed in another message, because, according to the author, there is no such word as Paw in the Indian language(s).
In yet another message, someone mentioned seeing the name spelled BoleyPaugh on a Social Security application.
That has prompted this rather far-fetched question. What are the chances that Bolypaw was a hyphenated name? Boley-Paugh, where the father's name comes first and the mother's maiden is added on at the end?Maybe the name wasn't shortened, but was Boley to begin with.As James Boley mentioned, only George's family used the longer name for so many years.
