Kathy
I just read your posting on Alfred Bolen, and have a couple of questions:
One is what ia a "Melungeon" you said they known as "Pleople of Free Color" did I loose something somewhere, arn't the Bolen's of English, Germany, Irish, and Scotish decent??? I have ask several people about this melungeon and no one has ever heard the word let alone what it means. I have look for it in my dictonery and it isn't there either, can you please tell me what it is and why you belive the Bolen's are of it??
Now I do know that there are family stories that we may have some American Indian blood in us, but it is only by marriage of Phonchoas' granddaughter, and that has not been fully proven that we are of that line as she married a Bolling. Please reply my email is garein@1st.net
and do you have proof as to when your Alfred Bolen was born, I don't have proof, but have mine listed as born in 1829 his father James was born between 1790 and 1805, thank you for any help you can give me. (just getting started )
