According to the 1860 Census, there was only one William Bowlin in Itawamba Co. In 1861 my William joins the Confederacy and signs up in Hampton, Itawamba. He gives his mailing address as Itawamba Co. According to the Confederate pension application, the ages match, everything matches. My William had 9 children with my gggrandmother, Mary Alice Wells. She was only 18 when they married and he was over 60. Their children's names were:
Eula
William Agustus
Barney
Mary Ada
James Taylor
Hugh Green
Medy
Ethel
Charles Brooks

Notice the continuation of family names. My dad said his ggrandmother, Mary Alice, always told him they had a lot of family back in Mississippi.
I believe that Clarissa once filed for a Confederate Pension Application in William's name. I will follow up on this.
This leads to all kinds of speculation about why William Washington (Riley) left Clarissa.
This could be another reason why he changed the name of Washington to Riley...didn't want to be tracked down.
