A biography/family history of James P. Bole, newspaperman, is included in "Montana,Its Story and Biography", Vol 2. James was of Scotch ancestry.

James was born 7 May 1868, Belfast, IR, to Rev. John Bole and Mary Simington Brown, b. 1822, Newton Stewart, Scotland, and 1826, Glasgow, Scotland, respectively. John & Mary died in West Barnett, VT, in 1909 & 1913, respectively. Children: Margaret S. (Mrs. Charles Hamilton), Waterbury, CT; William M., Great Falls, MT; Dr. Robert S. Bole, St. Paul, MN, Andrew S., East Hardwick VT; Marion, Waterbury, CT.

James P. Bole graduated from Burlington high school in 1877 and came West to begin newspaper work in St. Paul, MN. He attended the Chicago College of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1896. In 1897, he located to Great Falls, MT, and resumed newspaper work until he moved to Bozeman, MT, to be the editor of the Bozeman Chronicle in 1907.

On 30 Aug 1890, St. Paul, MN, James married Miss Mary Josephine McCormick of Little Meadows, PA. Children: Margaret, Elizabeth.

James Paisley Bole died 26 Mar 1940, Los Angeles, CA.
