Pierre Bolduc 2/26/05
John Baptiste Zachary Bolduc was a Jesuit priest who sailed from Montreal on Sept 12, 1841 and arrived at Fort Vancouver on Sept 15, 1842.He ministered at numerous locations in WA, OR and British Columbia. He served at St Francis Xavier Mission in 1842-1844 and was in charge of a new boys school at St Paul, OR, in 1844.He ministered to a number of indian tribes in the Puget Sound area including the Puyallups, Quamichan, Sanetch, Songish to name a few.The New Advent, a Catholic magazine has had a number of articles referencing his ministry to the indians. Go to www.newadvent.org for more info. They may still be available on line.
He may have ended up a Bishop at Vancouver, BC but I am not sure of that.
Also of interest is the mother ofmmigrant ancestor Louis Bolduc was Gilette Pijart.Gilette had two brothers, Pierre Pijart and Claude Pijart, both Jesuit priests who came to Canada to minister to the Canadian Indians (Hurons and Algonquins) in the late 1600's while Louis came with the army to fight the indians.
