I am researching the Bowlings/Boldings of Haywood, Gibson, Madison, and Hardeman counties of TN ca 1800-1850. This is the family P in Todd Bolen's books which includes Fh025 Alexander Bowling, b 1781 VA or NCand his brother Fh745 William b 1784 NC. They both appear on an 1805 tax list in Grainger Co., TN along with several other Bowlings including Thomas, Joseph, Joel, Jesse, James, David, Lisha, Stephen, and Edmund. By 1810 Alexander is in Lincoln Co., TN and moves to Madison Co., AL ca 1814. He dies in Lawrence Co., AL in 1843. William Bowling along with Fh731 Thomas Bowling, Sr. (believed to be brother to Alexander and William, but not proven) moved to Madison Co., TN in 1821, shortly after the government bought this land from the Indians in 1819. Tax, land, and court records established that other Bowlings lived in the three county area of Madison, Gibson, and Haywood in the newley opened Western Tenn. These included Lewis, Thomas, Jr., William, Jr., Danial B., Green B., I. Recently found court records help shed light on the relationship of these various Bowlings. Fh731 Thomas Bowling, Sr. b 1760-70, died about 1848 and certainly by May 1850 when he was sued in a court action by the heirs of Daniel Cherry against heirs of Thomas Boling, Sr. This document list the heirs of Thomas, Sr. as William Boling, Jr., Daniel B. Boling, John R. Williams and Mary, his wife, and Lewis Boling of Haywood Co., Green B. Boling of Shelby Co., Thomas Boling, Jr. and Nancy Boling of Fayette Co. Thomas, Jr. was born in 1802 d 1886 (if Thomas, Jr. burried in Pine Log Cemetery in Craighead Co., Ark.). Thus we now know the following: Fh 731-Thomas Boling, Sr. b. 1760-70 per census, d bet 1848 & May 1850 per court case This family also has the Pocahontas Family Legend without proof since the father of Alexander, William, and Thomas is unknown. It is believe that this family came from the south central part of Virginia (Lunenburg, Mecklenburg Cos.) moved to the Caswell Co., NC area prior to the Rev. War and later moved south through Mecklenburg Co., NC into South Carolina (Alexander's wife Elizabeth Worthy was born in Chester Co.,SC ca 1785) and into Grainger Co., TN by 1800. Possible allied families include Worthy, Alexander, Baskerville, Goin, Cherry, Yandell, Merrimoon, Edney, Davies/Davey, and Waltons. Any help in determining the parents of Alexander, William, and Thomas Bowling would be appreciated. Larry Bowling
