Birthdate of Johann Diehl BOHN b.1711
I decided to recheck the information on the birthdate of Johann Diehl BOHN.Nellie Whedon Woods wrote in 1945:"A photostat of the ship's passenger list shows that Johann Diehl Bohne arrived in Philadelphia on the boat "Marlborough" in 1741. On this list of 72 names, he is number 47.His name is written in English and spelled phonetically as "Dewaile Poon", age 30."
That is where they got the birthdate of 1711.HOWEVER, I'm seeing some problems here--
From the book, "Pennsylvania German Pioneers", which has copies of the records:
1. Minor point -- Johann Diehl BOHN is listed as number 43.BIGGER POINT -- his name is listed as Johann Diehl Bohn.EVEN BIGGER POINT -- there is no age listed for the passengers on the Marlborough.
2. I don't have a full copy of the book.I just made copies of the pages that related to the BOHN family. The lists from the Marlborough are Lists 82 B and 82 C.The facsimilie of the signatures are pages 301 - 304.Typed copies of the list are on pages 294 - 296.
On page 294, there is part of the precidint list.I don't have a copy of page 293 so I can't see what ship it is from, but it does give the ages!Could Nellie Whedon Woods have looked at the wrong list, got the wrong name....."Dewaile Poon" and thought it was "Johann Diehl Bohn"?I've certainly made those kind of mistakes myself!
Does anyone have a complete copy of the book and can confirm if she might have looked at the wrong record?
