Bohannon-Buchanan-Bullock VA, NC, MS
Here's all the information we have on my husband's family: Duncan Bohannon born about 1646 in Scotland or England. Died about 1704 in Gloucester County, VA. I've read that Duncan lived at the head of the Eastermost River near Mr. Armistead and Captain Dudley in 1667 and on one site, it's listed that he was married to a ___ Dudley so I suppose that was his second marriage because Duncan stopped in Barbados on his way over here and married Cicely Collmore in Saint Michael's Parish on 7/5/1658. I've read that they possibly went to MD before coming to VA. Joseph, their son, was born in Barbados. Joseph's wife is listed as Elizabeth Neville. Duncan and either Cicley or ___Dudley also had a Duncan, born about 1675 in Kingston Parish, Gloucester, VA.
This next generation Duncan appears on the K.P. tax list in 1705 and is also listed on a will dated March 2, 1753 with his wife Sarah Elliot. Their children were Duncan 1704-1760; Sarah 9/10/1698; Judith 5/6/1699-Gloucester, VA; William 4/4/1701 Gloucester/died before 3/2/1753 in Orange, VA; Robert 3/30/1707 in Kings and Queens, VA, died 3/2/1753 in Orange, VA. Married to Bathsheba Burnett who was born in 1712; *Markus born 3/6/1710; Elliot born 12/21/1711 in Kings and Queens, VA and died in Chatham, N.C. 3/21/1781; Margaret born 1712 in Kings and Queens, VA and *Phillis born 6/12/1714. *In Duncan Bohannon's will dated 1753, Phillis is listed as a slave and I read somewhere else that Markus was a slave as well, but that they were considered children of the family. Also, in the will, some of Duncan's daughters are listed with their married names so that will give you an idea of who they married. They are as follows: Sarah Saymor, Judith Askue, and Margaret Gollorshun (who was married to a Henry Rice first). Finally, his son Duncan had a daughter named Franky (Frances possibly) Bohannon and his other son Elliot had a daughter named Mary.
Duncan Bohannon, son of Duncan and Sarah Elliot, married Susannah May (born about 1704 and died in NC, previously married to John Thomas Longino). They were married in Surry County (VA?) and had John (b.1733 Caroline, VA? d. Orange, NC?), Joseph (b.1736 Caroline, VA? d.1758 Orange, NC?), Duncan (b.1738 Caroline, VA? d. 1758 Orange, NC?), Benjamin (b.1742 d. 1798 Anson, N.C.?), Richard (b. 1744 Orange, VA? d. July 1805 Chatham, N.C.), Frances (Franky) (b.1746 Orange, VA? d. after 1783 Chatham, N.C. and married a John Boyd), Mary (b. about 1748 Orange, VA?) and Elliot (b. about 1750 Orange, VA?)
Also, Duncan and Susannah were given custody of a May Burton (male)
John, son of Duncan and Susannah, married and had Rebecca, Elizabeth, Mary, Alexander, Duncan, Thomas, Sarah and John with this first spouse. He married Sarah Cassady for his second marriage and they had Neal.
These children of Duncan and May and Duncan and Cassady went on as follows: Neal married Ann Hadley. Rebecca married Greenbery Patterson and they had Rebecca 9/15/1777. John married Rebekah Carlton and they had Simon.
Richard, son of Duncan and Susannah May, probably received the plantation belonging to his father from his father's 1760 will in Orange Co. NC. In 11/1764, John Bohannon deeded land in Orange Co. to Richard. Richard married Elizabeth____ who was born in Scotland in 1750. She died in Chatham, N.C. around 1829. She and Richard had Abner, (1765-1828, married Elizabeth Minter), Elizabeth (1766-1815, married Pleasant Griffis), Frances (1769-?, married Herbert Griffis), Joseph (1771-1843), May (1773-?), Sarah (1775-1819) and Susannah (1777-before 1819, married James Chapman.) They were all born in Orange, N.C. and it's known that Abner and Joseph died in Chatham N.C. Elizabeth, Frances, and Sarah died in Smith, TN and Susannah died in Wilson, TN.
Something odd is that Richard somehow changed Bohannon to Buchanan and the children above are listed with the last name of Buchanan. Abner went on to have a bunch of kids, but it's too cumbersome to get into here so if anyone wants that information, please email me.
Joseph, Richard's son, owned a lot on Little Creek and was living between Haw River and New Hope River. His first wife was Priscilla and his second was Martha. The children are: Flora, Noah, Sally, Bethann, Imory, Alfred and Benjamin.
Benjamin, Joseph's son, married Delilah Womac and they had Temple, John, William, Zera, Kearney, Joseph, Nancy, Sally, Flora, Henry, Lemuel, and Andrew.
Henry, son of Benjamin, married Mary Baggette and they had John, Talitha, Thomas, Jane, Fannie, William, Lizzie, Elbert, James, Flora, Mary Frances and Zilpha.
Here's where I have a question: Jane married a Joshua Bullock, possibly in FL. They had Charles Henry, Steven Robert, James Woodrow, Chellie Susan, Mary Frances, Samanthia and William.
Does anyone have information on Joshua Bullock and Jane Buchanan? Her nickname was Tempy and I believe her real name was Temperance.
Any questions you might have as I have some dates and places...it just got to be too much to record them all...email me or post on here. Thanks!
