Lynne:
We may have a connection. I am currently doing research on Bohannan's of TN.
Here is some information that may help which will be in my new book on Bohannan's of TN.

The Bohannan family came from Ireland and settled first in VA about whom we know very little until James Bohannan. He was b. abt 1760 & served in the Revolutionary War. He was a farmer and we know he had at least 3 sons who came from VA and settled in Putman Co., TN.

They were John, George, & Campbell.

John Bohannan was a farmer & was one of the commissioner's that laid off the county of Putman when first established. His son Pleas Bohannan was elected the first sheriff of Putnam Co., TN.

Campbell Bohannan was a farmer and lived and died in Putnam Co.

George Bohannan was b. abt 1785 and was a farmer and Mechanic. He married a lady by the name of Pryor and to them were born 2 sons and 2 daughters. Sarah, Mahalia, Carol, & Thomas Jefferson Bohannan. Sarah m. a Nicholas. Mahalia m. Drury Sims; a school teacher and mechanic. To them were b. alta, Bell, John, George, Lizzie, & Linie. Alta & Bell died young. John Sims went West and spent his life there. His family is unknown to this writer.
George Sims settled in KY & died there. His descendants live there today. Lizzie & Linie both married men by the name of Bucker and left family living in Putnam Co.

Carol Bohannan married Bettie McCormick. They had a girl called Sis. They had 2 boys who went west.

George Bohannan died in 1864.

Thomas Jefferson Bohannan was b. Nov 16, 1825. He was a mechanic and went to MS early in life and worked building ships. He returned to Overton Co. and built a fine home for James Eldridge which was burned by union troops in 1864.

Thomas m. with widow Sarah Caroline Gray Jan 9, 1854. He spent the balance of his life in his cabinet and blacksmith shop. He was killed at home by Tinker Dave Beatty's men on Feb 10, 1865. (Full details will be in the book).

Thomas and Sara's son Leonidas Decater Bohannan was b. 11 Nov., 1854 & m. Sallie Ann Draper. Their son Howard Taylor Bohannan was b. 30 June, 1898 in Livingston, TN and m. Allene Preston Scott of East Liverpool, Oh.
Their son Roger Howard Bohannan is my Brother-in-Law and he has provided me with the above.

I am sure your James is related to this group of Bohannan's but since I have just begun to fill the blanks I am not sure exactly? I am sure he was named after the James Bohannan b. abt 1760 and descends from him.

You may email me at rushingnorm@hotmail.com if you think there is a link and I will be happy to share and exchange information.

For those interested in the book I hope to have it to the publisher in a few months. The price will be very reasonable and in paperback (to keep costs down). I will likely have it available on CD as well.

If you wish to be placed on the wait list just send me an email (listed above)and I will advise when available.
Cheers
Norm B.
