Oscar M. Bogle was my grandfather. He moved to the NW Alabama area in the mid-1930's, along with his wife, Maudie Lee Wilson Bogle, and my father, Jerry C. Bogle. His younger son, Joe Irving Bogle, was born after the move. His sister, Lena, married Raymond Henry and still resides in Florence, Al.
Oscar was a Church of Christ preacher and also worked as a security guard at Reynold's Metal Co. near Sheffield, Al.
My grandfather was known around the area for starting churches and helping those in need.
He was a large man, standing 6'5" and weighing over 300 lbs. I remember a story that some of the older people in the community used to tell about him carrying a bale of cotton on his back the whole length of a loading dock.
