Hi Marieda...I'm not related in any way...just snooping..LOL
I could be totally off here, but I really think that Viola's maiden name was Bumgardner instead of Clendenin.
I found the following from the old newspapers:
From The Charleston Gazette, February 13, 1943
Mrs. Viola Boggess
Mrs. Viola Boggess, 68, wife of the late Bascom Boggess, formerly of Charleston, died Thursday at her home in Detroit, Mich. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Detroit.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Carl Carney of Charleston, Mrs. William Bailey, Mrs. Holland Ligon, and Mrs. Stanley Glied, and a son, Clifford Boggess, all of Detroit; two sisters and a brother.
Then from The Charleston Daily Mail, August 30, 1938, I found an obituary for a William Jackson Bumgardner. It says that his parents were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bumgardner and it lists one of his sisters as Mrs. Bascom Boggess of Detroit.
I looked on the 1880 census, there is an A.J. and Jane Bumgardner living in Washington, Jackson Co., WV with a son William J., and a daughter Viola A. The age of Viola matches the above obit.
I hope this is helpful in some way. I'd be happy to look for more on these names in the old papers if it would be helpful. :)
