Hi, John! I just found Genforum. Thanks for letting me know about it. Marylin, if you're reading board messages, hello, cousin!

As to names taken from farms, Anne Kirstene Braarud's surname was taken from the farm name, Braarud. Our mutual great-aunt Florence Bogen took a trip with, I believe, one of her nieces (Virginia Mansell?) back to visit Vaaler and Braarud. She actually went to the Braarud farm. I only knew Florence briefly when she was in her 90s. We had a few very nice telephone chats, and she sent me a copy of a typewritten letter about her experience visiting Norway which she sent to various relatives years ago.
best regards,
Rick St. Clair
