Smith/Bogardus circa 1780-81

I am hoping someone on this list may have information concerning the wife of Jeremiah Smith, b. about 1744, in NJ. Family researchers and 150-year-old letters say Jeremiah's wife was a Bogardus. They were parents of eight children: Elizabeth, Mary, Joseph, John J., Abigail, Gabriel, Samuel, and Sarah, the youngest, b. Oct 1780. Jeremiah died before Sarah was born and her mother died in Feb 1781. Sarah was sent to live with her maternal grandmother on Long Island. According to the family stories, Grandmother Bogardus died a few years later in an accidental fall down a set of stairs and Sarah went to live with one of her older sisters. She married a seaman at an early age, but he was lost in a shipwreck. She then married Joshua Randall on 4 July 1801. Sarah and Joshua are my maternal gggg-grandparents.

Does any of this sound familiar to you? Please contact me; I will gladly share what information I have. Many thanks.

Shirley Schall
