Re: Pronounication: My German friends tell me it is "Burner," with the "o" and "e" pronounced as "ur" (the omlaut). There are many Borners in Germany with the two dot symbol over the "o". There is also "Bjorn," which someone said had a Scandinavian origin (Bee-yorn). There is also "Bourner" as a spelling. One reference said Boerner meant person who lived next to a spring (water) and emerged in the 1400s in Saxony. You are right, Boerner's are very difficult to find and sort out.
